Peter Shinkoda aka Nobu on Daredevil took the time to answer some questions for the site.
Were you a fan of Daredevil prior to being on the show
Yes. I have many Daredevil comics from the 80s stored in a box at my parent's place still.
What was the audition process like?
The audition process was the same as every other except I was cast by sending audition tapes through my reps to NYC casting from LA.
Did you find season one or two more difficult to shoot?
I found season 2 much more difficult. There were more fights, more dialogue and less preparation time.
What was the vibe on set like?
The set vibe is always very disciplined but at the same time so much fun because I work very closely with the incredible stunt team everyday. It's like having front row seats to Daredevil LIVE the 3D experience. The stunt team, which is led by Philip Silvera and Roberto Gutierrez are a thrill to work with!
Did you get to do many of your own stunts?
I do as many stunts as they have planned to let me do. I usually don't find out until that day.
Is there any other comic related project you’d like to be a part of whether it’s Marvel or DC?
I was interested in some superheroes before but I'm so privileged already to have played Nobu in Daredevil at this point or "Kagenobu Yoshioka" as I just found out by watching more of season 2!
Questions submitted by fans:
What was the most challenging part of your role?
Traveling to the NYC sets from Los Angeles numerous times was exhausting. I wish I had more time with my material - it makes the whole process more enjoyable.
What was it like being a part of the Marvel universe?
Having been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a kid's dream come true! It's off my bucket list! Everyone should try it!
What was your favorite scene to film?
I enjoyed shooting with Vincent D'Onofrio a lot but I also enjoyed my first face-off against Daredevil. There's a long scene in season 2 where I'm with Daredevil, Elektra and Stick and I have them in a pinch - I enjoyed acting with those talented actors!
If you could play any other character on the show who would it be and why?
The Punisher, hands down. He's badass.
What was it like working with Charlie Cox?
Working with Charlie is a thrill because he's a consummate professional with his work ethic and the personal investment that he puts into every detail is infectious and a delight to be around.
Did you get to keep anything from the set?
I stole some long johns from wardrobe. Whoops. Now they know.
